8 Albert Camus Quotes to Live By

Albert Camus was a French philosopher, author and writer who lived from 1913 to 1960. Many attributed his thinking to that of existentialism, but Camus in fact helped form a philosophical movement called 'absurdism'. Absurdism explored the contradiction between man's quest for meaning and the inherent meaninglessness of life.

Here are 8 of my favourite quotes:

1. “Don’t walk in front of me… I may not follow. Don’t walk behind me… I may not lead. Walk beside me… just be my friend”

2. “You will never be happy if you continue to search for what happiness consists of. You will never live if you are looking for the meaning of life.”

3. “Man is the only creature who refuses to be what he is.”

4. “Nobody realizes that some people expend tremendous energy merely to be normal.”

5. “The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion.”

6. “Real generosity towards the future lies in giving all to the present.”

7.“To be happy, we must not be too concerned with others.”

8. “In order to understand the world, one has to turn away from it on occasion."
